They can occur almost anywhere on the surface of the body. They are generally classified as oral, or non-oral.
~ Oral melanoma is the most common oral malignancy in dogs.
~ Melanoma cancer that begins in the melanocytes. Cells called melanocytes are also in the epidermis. (skin)
~ Basal cell and squamous cell cancers are much more common than melanoma type of skin cancer.
“Oral” malignant melanomas can occur on the:
While you wait for remedies to arrive start using the Slippery Elm Powder to cover ulcers in the mouth. e.g Feline: Sprinkle some powder (around 1/4 teaspoon) into a one to two tablespoons of filtered water mix well to make a runny liquid mix, if its thick and too gluggy then add some more water to it. Add a teaspoon to every meal given, until ulcers, inflammations or diarrhea stops. Or oral syringe (without the needle) inside of the mouth. Can oral syringe 1ml either side or both sides of the mouth to help reach ulcers. If mixture gets too thick or gluggy continue to add more fluids to the mixture to keep a runny mixture. Repeat oral dosing before each meat time to assist with eating okay. Can also add vitamins and herbs to the slippery elm mix.
“Non-Oral” malignant melanomas can occur at other locations including:
Eye (arising from the conjunctiva area are malignant, – Anterior uveal tract melanocytomas and choridal and limbal melanocytomas are usually benign)
Melanocytic tumors are formed by abnormal melanocytes. Melanocytoma is a benign (non-spreading) melanoma. Malignant (spreading) tumors are sometimes called melanoma or more specifically “malignant melanoma” or “melanosarcoma”. In dogs, the most common melanomas of the eye originate from the iris (anterior uvea) [see diagram]. They are usually benign.
Eyelid, conjunctival, limbal and choroid tumors are all rare. Only conjunctival tumors are malignant. Limbal tumors (tumors that form at the junction between the cornea and sclera) are nodules that can be removed surgically. * The anterior uveal and choroid tumors are usually benign but may cause problems by increasing the intra-ocular pressure (glaucoma) that can lead to blindness. The appearance of malignant melanoma can be variable. It usually is a solitary tumor that is 1/4 inch to several inches in diameter. It is often a dark color (gray, brown or black) but may be non-pigmented, as well. It is usually hairless and may become ulcerated.
Note: If your pet has been diagnosed with Melanoma of the conjunctiva (surface of the eye), you will only need part of this natural formula set.

Note: When ordering please state where on the body the skin lesion or skin ulcer is growing. If in a delicate area e.g near eye on the face or orally or genital area, then we would provide a gentler topical treatment paste. e.g GoldBlack Paste or Golden Cream (replacing the BloodRoot paste)
